Institut du Nouveau Monde:
The Chief Electoral Officer is taking part in the Summer school

From August 18th to 21st, the Institut du Nouveau Monde held, for a second year in a row, its Summer school in Montréal. More than six hundred young people ranging from 15 to 30 years of age and coming from every region of Québec travelled to UQAM to take part in this ‘citizenship university’, with a view to participating in the building of their society. This year, Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, visited this school to exchange with young people and to underscore the importance of taking part in modern democratic life.

By providing his expertise and by participating financially, the Chief Electoral Officer is expressing his conviction that this non-partisan event meets a growing need among young people, namely that of improving their knowledge of the issues facing our society and above all, debating such issues together, in the presence of well-known figures. This summer, Françoise David, Pierre Dansereau, Jacques Languirand, Guy Chevrette, Jack Layton, Gil Courtemanche and Gérald Larose, to name but a few, opened the debates or held workshops on such themes as international commitment, becoming an elected member, the Kyoto Protocol, the social role of businesses, alterglobalist commitment, etc.

The Institut du Nouveau Monde makes participants want to feel young and to take full part in the establishment of a society that is open to the future!
